We use a mnemonic to help remember the minimum things you need to check before diving: BWRAF.
B - Begin - BCD [Alt: Burger]
W - With - WEIGHTS
R - Review - RELEASES [Alt: Relish]
A - And - AIR
F - Friend - FINAL OK [Alt: Fries]
Think of this like a monkey check; you and your buddy should be picking over one another in an effort to find anything wrong.
