Regulator Clear

Objective: 
  •  to clear a partially or completely flooded regulator [blast clear and/or purge clear]
Value: 

 In the event that your regulator should get some small amount of water in it, or if you're required to remove your regulator completely from your mouth. You need to know how to clear and replace it to enable you to keep diving.

Steps to Perform: 

To Remove your Regulator:

  1. Relax
  2. Take a breath
  3. Hold your regulator hose firmly with your right hand, fingers pointed toward your mouth
  4. Pull the regulator from your mouth
  5. Blow small bubbles to get in teh habit of constantly breathing and never holding your breath while the regulator is out of your mouth

To Clear Your Regulator [Purge]:

  1. Place the regulator in your mouth
  2. Cover the opening of the regulator [inside your mouth] with your tongue [to keep the water from coming into your mouth]
  3. Press the purge button briefly on the front of your regulator
  4. Sip the air initially to ensure the regulator is clear

To Clear Your Regulator [Blast]:

  1. Place the regulator in your mouth
  2. Blow firmly out [e.g. creating a blast of air] 
  3. Sip the air initially to ensure the regulator is clear
