Remove and Replace Scuba Unit Underwater

Objective: 

 To be able to get out of your scuba unit and get back into it safely underwater.

 
Value: 

  In the event that you're entangled in something underwater, it's very handy to be able to get yourself out of your scuba unit and back into it without assistance.

 
Steps to Perform: 
  1. Keep your regulator in your mouth at all times
  2. Deflate your BCD completely
  3. Loosen your buckles
  4. Open up any buckles or waist straps
  5. Slide left hand through your BCD
  6. Pull the scuba unit around behind you to the right [keeping the reg in your mouth]
  7. Position the scuba unit down in front of you with the tank valve and your 1st stage regulator at your belly
  8. Make sure the regulator hose is inside your arm and not outside your arm BEFORE you proceed
  9. Reach down and open the arm hole straps on the unit until you can reach your arms all the way in to the elbow on each side
  10. Reach back behind the scuba unit for the tank and grasp it
  11. Pull the scuba unit up and over your head, being careful and slow so to avoid catching your regulator and pulling it out of your mouth
  12. Pull the bottom of the scuba unit down around your hips
  13. Feel for and fasten the buckles
  14. Re-tighten any loosened buckles
